Govt notifies zero duty import of wheat by private trade
New Delhi, Sep 9 (UNI) To check price rise, the government today notified the reduction of customs duty on import of wheat by private trade from five per cent to zero per cent with immediate effect upto December, 2006.
The notification was issued by the Department of Revenue, Central Board of Excise and Customs.
The Cabinet Committee of Prices, at its meeting held on August 31, 2006, had decided that zero duty imports of wheat by private trade would be notified after STC concluded its wheat import contracts currently under finalisation.
STC opened its tenders at 1500 Hours on September 5, 2006.
Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Department of Food and Public Distribution, informed that STC has finalised its wheat import contracts.
Accordingly, zero duty imports of wheat by private trade has been notified today (vide Notification No.97/2006-Customs dated September 9.2006), an official release said here.
