Farmers take out rally against insufficient power supply
Rajkot, Sep 9 (UNI) Irritated by insufficient power supply and erratic power cuts, thousands of farmers, led by Opposition Leader in Gujarat Assembly Arjun Modhwadia took out a rally and gheraoed the Pachim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) Office at Porbandar yesterday.
Opposition Leader Arjun Modhwadia told UNI that the farmers demanded that the authorities of the Company take steps to ensure proper power supply of 12 hours in rural areas instead of erratic supply of just eight hours.
The farmers alleged that irregular and insufficient power supply had affected the cultivation of crops.
Farmers staged a protest in front of the Office of the Superintending Engineer of PGVCL and also gheraoed the Office.
They left the place only after an assurance from the Superntending Engineer (SE) of PGVCL, Porbandar A M Dave that the company would try to give them a disruption free power supply, Mr Modhwadia said.
They also submitted a memorandum to the SE.
''If the farmers' demands are not met, they would intensify their agitation to the villages,'' Mr Modhwadia said.
