Dope test of wrestlers before World Championship

Chandigarh, Sep 9 (UNI) The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Dr Mahinder Singh Malik today disclosed that the wrestlers selected for the World Wrestling Championship in Guanghhou (China) from September 25 to 28 would undergo dope test before the Indian team leaves for China.

Dr Malik, who is also president of the Haryana Wrestling Association said that the women squad was picked during the selection trials conducted at the Sports Authority of India centre in Hisar on September seven. Satbir Singh and Sudesh Kumar (government nominee) and three prominent local wrestlers were part of the selection committee.Lady team doctor Navneet was also present during the trials.

During the selection trials, Suman Kundu of Haryana upset two-time Asian silver medallist Geetika Jhakar in the 63rd weight category. Sonika Kaliraman, daughter of Master Chandgiram, has been selected in the 72 kg weight category.

Other women wrestlers selected are: Sumel of Delhi (48 kg), Neha Rathi of Haryana (51 kg), Geeta of Haryana (55 kg), Alka Tomar of Uttar Pradesh (59 kg).

Dr Malik said that the men's team would be selected today at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala. The probables appeared for the weigh-in yesterday and selection trials would be conducted today. The selection committee is comprised Dronacharya Sukhchain Singh Cheema, chief coach Jagminder, Sudesh Kumar (Government nominee), Safri Lal, Darshan Lal and three local coaches.
