Curfew lifted in Malegaon; Situation still tense
Malegaon, Sept 9: Curfew was today lifted in the textile town of Malegaon in North Maharashtra which was rocked by twin blasts, killing 38 people and injuring more than 150 after the Friday prayers.
Malegaon Superintendent of Police Anil Kumbhare told sources the curfew was lifted at 0800 hrs and the situation was peaceful. ''No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in the town,'' he informed.
The city police control room said six companies of the SRP, one company of the CRPF, 100 policemen each from Ahmednagar, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar districts have been stationed in the communally sensitive town since last night.
Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will visit Malegaon later in the day to review to security scenario and hold discussions with top state police officials. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil is camping here since yesterday to monitor the law and order situation.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Nashik district guardian minister Chhagan Bhujbal and DGP P S Pasricha will also visit Malegaon to take stock of the situation.
Two bombs exploded near Bada Kabrastan and Mushrawat chowk at 1350 hrs yesterday.
