Two Mizo senior citizens arrested with corruption charge

Aizawl, Sep 8 (UNI) Mizoram police arrested Mizoram Upa Pawl(MUP), Association of Senior Citizens of the state Tanhril unit president Lalbiaktluanga and William Sailo last night following corruption charges.

Police said MUP General Secretary (HQ) Sainghinga Sailo had filed an FIR aganist the duo with Bawngkawn police yesterday stating that Tanhril MUP unit had been granted Rs 50,000 by the Central Social Welfare Board for imparting awareness about women's projects but only Rs 5000 was deposited in the unit account.

The unit located in the periphery viallge of Tanhril in Western Aizawl had been informed that Rs 5000 had been given to them by the Centre which the unit members happily received.

The unit's office bearers informed their headquarters that their president was involved in a scam, which resulted in the arrest of the duo.

According to Lalbiaktluanga, unit's president Sailo had approached him with a plan on how to obtain grants from Delhi and the unit had agreed that if any grant was received. They would be happy with even Rs 5000 as it was so difficult for the unit to bring in revenues.
