Training programme for Journalists on Renewable Energy begins

Hyderabad, Sep 8 (UNI) The World Institute of Sustainable Energy, Pune started a two-day national training programme on Renewable Energy for newspersons here today.

The ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Resources, has sponsored the programme. About 40 newspersons from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Orissa were participating in the programme.

Inaugurating the programme Mr K Swaminathan, Chairman, AP State Electricity Regulatory Commission referred to the provisions for Renewable Energy promotion and the utilisation made in the National Electricity Policy-2003 and in the Tariff Bill-2005.

Delivering the key note address, N P Singh, Advisor, Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources said the country today had an installed capacity of 8088 Mw of renewable energy.

Dr Singh urged newspersons to be partners with the ministry for spreading awareness among the people on benefits of Renewable Energy such as solar, wind, biomass and small hydro-electricity.
