Sarpanch, kin picked up in hawala money case
Moga, Sep 8 (UNI) A three-member Central team of Enforcement Directorate picked up three persons of the district, including a Sarpanch and his kin, and interrogated them till late in the evening regarding recovery of Rs 13.50 lakh alleged Hawala money by the Jagroan police about fortnight back.
Rashpal Singh, sarpanch of village Daudhar, his son-in-law Kewal Singh and one Sandeep Kumar, both residents of Manuke village of the district, were brought to Moga CIA office and interrogated them till late evening.
Later, a the enforcement directorate took Kewal Singh and Sandeep Kumar to Ludhiana for further verification of the place from where they had allegedly taken the money suspected to have arrived from foreign country.
After thorough probe, the enforcement directorate team brought them to Moga after 2300hrs and allowed to proceed to their respective villages.
According to official information, the Jagroan police caught the trio about a fortnight back with Rs 13.50 lakh alleged to be hawala money.
The police let them go after entering the recovered money in the police record and informing the local court also. The accused then moved the court requesting to take back the money from the police denying it was hawala money.
The Enforcement Directorate yesterday also moved the Jagraon court in the case leading to the court stalling the proceedings for the time being.
The enforcement directorate will further probe into the matter.
