Rupesh-Roberto pair enters boys' doubles quarters at US Open

New York, Sep 8 (UNI) Rupesh Roy and his Venezuelan partner Roberto Maytin cruised into the quarterfinals of the boys' doubles event of the US Open with a facile 6-4, 6-4 win over the Japanese-Russian pair of Tatsuma Ito and Vladimir Zinyakov in the second round here.

The Indo-Venezuelan pair will now take on the US duo of Jarmere Jenkins and Austin Krajicek in the quarterfinals.

Rupesh, who bowed out of the singles event in the first round, and Roberto's win has kept the Indian challenge alive in the junior events after some disappointing performances led to shocking exits in both the doubles' and singles' competitions.

The Indo-Venezuelan pair were in sublime form as they sealed the first set without much trouble against the Tatsumo and Vladimir. The second set followed almost the same pattern and Rupesh and Roberto kept up the pressure to outplay their opponents and move into the next round.
