Railways' revenue up 15.77 per cent
New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) The growth trajectory of the Railways continues to be on the upswing with the government's biggest department posting an earning of Rs 24576.87 crore during April - August as compared to Rs 21229 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 15.77 per cent.
The total goods earnings went up to Rs 16540 crore from Rs 14201.50 crore during the corresponding period last year, an increase of 16.47 per cent.
In the passenger segment, the Railways earned Rs 7082.04 crore as compared to Rs 6339.23 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.72 per cent.
The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 654.68 crore as compared to Rs 475.02 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 37.82 per cent.
The total sundry earnings increased to Rs 300.15 crore from Rs 213.25 crore during the period, up 40.75 per cent.
The total number of passengers booked during April-August this year were 2620.35 million compared to 2414.55 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 8.52 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during the period were 1428.80 million and 1191.55 million compared to 1343.93 million and 1070.62 million during the same period last year, an increase of 6.32 per cent and 11.30 per cent respectively.
