Poll petition against INLD MLA; witnesses summoned
Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today fixed September 22 as the next date of hearing on the petition against Rekha Rana of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), who had been elected to the Haryana Assembly in the state elections in February last year.
This was ordered by Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar who has also summoned witnesses to be examined in connection with the poll petition on the same date.
The petition against Rekha Rana has been filed by Independent candidate Jai Pal Sharma, who had lost to her, while the ruling Congress candidate had come third in this Rajput-dominated constituency.
Ms Rana had won the election by a thin margin of 21 votes from Gharaunda Constituency in Karnal district.
The main allegation against Ms Rana relates to alleged casting of votes of those who were either not alive or had been out of the country on the day of polling.
Justice Khehar, had after hearing preliminary submissions, decided in favour of regular hearing as the number of votes of allegedly dead people was much higher than the margin of votes that propelled the respondent INLD candidate to win the seat.
