Police submits chargesheet against Sibu Soren

Jamshedpur, Sep 7 (UNI) The East Singhbhum district police submitted chargesheet against Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo and the Union Coal Minister Sibu Soren and his party MLA Champai Soren in a seven-year old case for violating model code of conduct.

The chargesheet was brought at a time when ''Guruji'' was engaged in discussing the Jharkhand politics in which his party was playing a crucial role in formation of the UPA government in the state after the Arjun Munda government reduced to minority.

The chargesheet was submitted yesterday against the two JMM leaders on the basis of a case lodged at Bistupur Police Station by an Executive Magistrate for carrying arms and ammunition to celebrate the birth anniversary of the slain JMM president Nirmal Mahto at Chamaria guest house in 1999.

As it was election time, the model code of conduct was enforced and the leaders allegedly wielded arms and opened fire in the air, the magistrate lodge a case under IPC section 188 against Sibu and Champai Soren and another MLA Dulal Bhuiyan for defying model coduct and a warrant was issued agaisnt all of them.

While Dulal surrendered before the court and obtained bail but Sibu and Champai failed to appear. Although they obtained bail in 2004, but the case was being ivestigated by the police for the past two years.

The timing of submitting the chargesheet raised questions about the intention of the police, said a UPA leader and termed it politically motivated.
