No earthquake, panic grips Asom

Guwahati, Sep 8 (UNI) The mega earthquake did not rock Asom this morning but geologist N Venkanathan's yesterday's prediction was enough to press the panic button among the people of the state today.

As per reports pouring in from different parts of the state, people woke up early in the morning haunted by fear of the earthquake at around 8.20 hrs in the morning.

Most of the families were awaiting the mega quake anxiously with essentials prescribed for a disaster situation. People living in the multi-storeyed complexes in the bustling Guwahati city gathered outside their houses.

Majority of the families did not send their children to school this morning while many of the schools in the state remained closed.

People were relieved after the clock passed 8.30 hrs. Everyone has been cursing the scientist who predicted the earthquake.

Earlier, yesterday several Seismologists and Geologists in the state tried to assure the people that it was virtually impossible to predict an earthquake with such specific time and location.

The state government had urged the people to remain calm.

However, the district administrations were asked to remain on alert.

In some of the Upper Asom districts, the administration used the public announcement system yesterday and asked the people to remain prepared for the quake.
