Navy men to conquer South Pole

Kolkata, Sep 8 (UNI) Commander Satyabrata Dam and his team will be the first defence force team that will set out to successfully Ski Traverse to the South Pole since 1912.

If they cover this successfully, they will be the first Indian team to do it.

Talking to the media today Commander Dam said, ''we will try to cross country SKI some 200 km from a point near Patriot Hill Base Camp to the South Pole.'' '' This will be a very inviting effort undertaken by the 10 mavericks, led by me. In the group, there are two other everesters other than me. They are Rakesh Kumar and Vikash Kumar,'' Dam informed.

They have already done a camp in Greenland to acclamatise and will do another in Himachal Pradesh just before they leave on November 22.

The Indian Navy will sponsor the expedition as announced by Admiral Arun Prakash formally yesterday.
