Mumbai needs directly elected Mayor : Sanjay Ubale
Mumbai, Sep 8 (UNI) If Mumbai was to come out of the present messy situation and emerge as a world-class city, it will need a directly elected Mayor who will be fully accountable to the city, said State Government secretary (special projects), Sanjay Ubale, here today.
He also outlined the need for BEST-isation of the functions being undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
He was speaking on the occasion of the Indian Merchant Chamber's (IMC) 100th Foundation Year celebrations.
Mr Ubale stressed the need for urgent reforms in the Urban Land Ceiling and Regulation Act and the review of regulations for development of coastal zones. He also suggested that a relook at the Floor Space Index norms and reconsideration of Rent Control rules, besides addressing environmental concerns, is the need of the hour.
