Kerala calls for CM-level talks with TN on Mullaperiyar
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 8 (UNI) The Kerala Government will take steps to hold a Chief Ministerial level discussion with Tamil Nadu to resolve the Mullaperiyar imbroglio, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said today.
Talking to mediapersons here after a meeting of the State Cabinet, the Chief Minister said his government wanted to settle amicably the dispute over raising the storage level of the 111-year-old dam.
Though the Kerala Government was taking steps to find a solution to the dispute in the wake of the recent earthquake here that posed a threat to the safety of people living downstream, the Tamil Nadu officials took a provocative stand, he claimed.
It was in this circumstance the government wanted to hold a high-level discussions in the matter.
He said the question of increasing the storage level to 142 ft should be discussed in detail in the wake of the earthquake.
