CMRI to conduct international exams for doctors

Kolkata, Sep 8 (UNI) United Kingdom's Royal College of Surgeons has selected the Calcutta Medical Research Institute to conduct the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons(MRCS) exam, held from September 4 to 8, for doctors worldwide.

With physicians from countries like the UK, Egypt, the Middle East, Malaysia, Bangladesh and India, the MRCS is conducted by a team of members from the RCS at CMRI, which provides world class infrastructure with a large number of medical and para-medical staff.

Addressing newspersons today former Chairman of the College Dr Mark Patterson said keeping in view the interest of the medicos they had decided to conduct the examination here as it would save a lot of time and slash the huge expenditure of students who go to the UK for the exam.

He further said, ''The CMRI has a good flow of patients and some world class doctors which is one of the reasons to choose it for the coveted exam.'' Stressing on the pattern of the exams, Mr Patterson said, ''It is the exam of the doctors, for the doctors and by the doctors and will have three parts.'' The results of the first phase of the exam were overwhelming and the RCS was surprised to find that the Indian doctors had huge potential. The next phase of the exam would be held on January 29, 2007.

He further said Indian medicos were one of the best in the world and occupied 30 per cent of the entire fraternity of doctors in the UK.

CMRI Medical Superintendent Dr Mala Chattopadhaya said, ''our country produces the largest number of doctors in the world and such examinations would help them improve their standards and check the growing problems of quacks.'' UNI PP PL RN1804
