CM assured to protect the standing crops in kurnool
Hyderabad, Sept 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today assured the Legislative Members of Kurnool district that the Government would take effective steps to protect the standing crops in the district.
He was addressing the MLAs of Kurnool districst here today on the issues relating to drought and drinking water needs of the district.
The MLAs brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that the water flows in low level canal of Tunga Bhadra received during the period from July last week to first week of Septemnber was only 245 cusecs as against the average indented discharge of 600 cusecs.
There was a lot of uproar from farmers they said.
They said transplantation had been made to an extent of 6000 acre as against 34,600 acre due to the meagre realisation of water at the state border.
He Directed the State Irrigation Minister Laxmaiah to meet the irrigation Minister of Karnataka and apprise him of the situation and miuses of water by Karnataka farmers.
The Chief Minisater took serious view of the misuse of water at Karnataka border and low releasse of water in Low level canal of Tunga Bhadra.
Dr Reddy spoke to his counterpart in Kaarnataka Mr Kumaraswamy Gouda over phone during the meeting and apprised the situation and urged to take appropriate action in the matter.
He directed the District Collector Kurnoopl to take up Rural Employment Guarantee programme in the district though it was not covered under the programme, when the leaders brought to the notice of the Chief Minister of the severe drought situation.
