Bhakra dam level not alarming: BBMB
Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) today clarified that the water level at the Bhakra dam reservoir was below the danger mark, denying the media reports that the situation was alarming.
Addressing a press conference here, BBMB chairman Rakesh Nath said the dam's reservoir level was 1677.15 feet today, against about 1673 feet on the same day last year.
''Though the water level is high, the situation is not alarming as the water is being released at the rate of 19,000 cusecs every day which is good for the farmers,'' Mr Nath said.
He, however, said the Bhakra hydel projects one small unit was flooded earlier this week which caused losses in terms of 14 million units which was worth Rs four crore loss per day.
As per the BBMB guidlines, the reservoir level could go up to 1680 feet by the end of August, he said. ''Rather, this much amount of water is good for the farmers of the northern region in times to come,'' he said.
