Apang calls for need-based plan for economic self-reliance
Itanagar, Sep 08 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang today called for formulating a need-based and result-oriented plan with a realistic approach to achieve the goal of economic self -reliance.
Addressing the State Planning Board (SPB) meeting here, the Chief Minister exhorted one and all to develop a positive mindset while preparing strategies for a balanced economic development in the state and called for mobilisation of resources for funding plans with strict fiscal discipline.
He said plan proposals should target to achieve socio-economic objectives with emphasis on the key sectors of the economy like agriculture and allied sectors, employment generation, poverty alleviation programme, infrastructure development, human resource development through education and healthcare.
He also laid stress on quality of developmental outcome and increased efficiency of the plan programme.
Pointing out that agriculture and allied sectors were key to economic rejuvenation of the state's economy, Mr Apang advocated for giving thrust on double cropping in agriculture to meet up the increasing demand of rice in the state, besides exporting the surplus production to other parts of the country.
The Chief Minister further advocated for declaring the state as an organic state as use of chemicals in farming was very negligible.
He also said the state has a potential to introduce a new green revolution due to favourable agro climatic condition.
He said it should be sustained through regular flow of inputs like high yielding variety seeds, mechanisation and agricultural credits with adequate marketing support.
He further called for providing adequate resources to horticulture sector for increasing its productivity.
