AITUC plea on industrial estates

Pondicherry, Sep 8 (UNI) The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today urged the administration to drop its proposed move to privatise the industrial estates here.

AITUC General Secretary V S Abishegam, in a statement here, said the estates constituted the basic force for industrial development in the union territory and recalled the agitation organised by the trade union when the government made efforts to privatise it in August last year.

The government should not ignore the promise given by the then government that the industrial estates will not be privatised.

He claimed the working class would lose jobs while the rich made more profits under the privatisation programme.

Mr Abishegam also cautioned of state-wide agitations if the government decided to go ahead with it's proposal.
