Suspected 'witch' hacked to death

Baripada, Sep 7 (UNI) A tribal woman of Sananaisurubali village under Jashipur police station of Mayurbhanj district was hacked to death by a tribal youth suspecting her to be a witch.

Police said Amarsingh Sanya(22) killed Sumitra Chatar(45) during wee hours on Tuesday as he believed that Sumitra had magical and super-natural powers and had killed his father by practising sorcery.

His ailing father died recently, police sources said.

Amarsingh later surrendered at the Karanjia police station and confessed the crime.The police had registered a case under section 302 IPC.

The body of the slain woman was sent to Karanjia sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem, police said.
