Bina Ramani brought to Delhi, to be produced in court

New Delhi, Sep 7: Socialite Bina Ramani, one of the key witnesses in the Jessica Lall murder case, was today brought to Delhi by the police, from Goa, where she was arrested yesterday following a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against her by a court here.

The plane carrying Ms Ramani, along with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Delhi Police, which arrested her last evening in a joint effort with the Goa Police from her restaurant in Candolim, 20 km from Capital Panaji in Goa, landed here at about 1130 hrs, according to sources.

The SIT brought Ms Ramani to Delhi after obtaining a transit remand from a Panaji court.

She will be produced at the Patiala House courts here in the afternoon, sources added.

Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail plea of Ms Ramani, filed by her lawyer yesterday, was withdrawn today.

Yesterday's arrest of the Delhi socialite, made two days after a NBW was issued against her, comes after she was charged on September 4 in connection with forging papers to secure a licence for her restaurant-cum-bar at Mehrauli.

The NBW against Bina Ramani for September 15 was issued on a Delhi Police application which sought her 'custodial interrogation'.

Ms Ramani had been booked under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC.

Her restaurant-cum-bar 'Once Upon A Time', in Qutub Colonnade in South Delhi's posh Mehrauli area, is where model Jessica Lall was killed in April 1999.
