Silver opens lower, gold gains

Mumbai, Sept 7 (UNI) Prices of spot silver opened lower due to lack of demand, while gold rose modestly mainly on strong overseas advices, traders at the bullion market today said.

Following were today's opening spot rates : Silver (per kg) .999 fineness grade : Rs 19,940, Gold (per 10 gm): Gold 99.5 purity standard mint: : Rs 9,490, Gold 99.9 purity variety : Rs 9,540.
