Scrap SEZ policy, says Yadav
Bhopal, Sep 7(UNI) Strongly opposing the special economic zone act, Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav today called for a national debate to formulate a better policy to promote export and attract foreign investment while maintaining food security.
''The policy of promoting SEZs will ruin the country'', he told newsmen here, adding ''our area of green revolution is being grabbed by land mafia and governments in the name of SEZ''.
Fertile land around Delhi is being grabbed by vested interests.
''What we need is to turn India a low cost economy instead of going for the China model of promoting SEZ'', he said.
The party will stage dharna at Jantar Mantar in the national capital on the SEZ issue on September 25, Mr Yadav added. He clarified that the farmers agitation, led by former Prime Minister V P Singh, was aimed at getting more compensation to farmers, while JD(U) was totally opposed to SEZ Act.
