Ruling Cong committed to Telangana development
Hyderabad, Sep 7 (UNI) Leaving the issue of statehood to party president Sonia Gandhi, the Congress Government is focussing on speedy development of backward Telangana senior Congress Leader and Tribal Welfare Minister D Redya Naik said today.
Claiming that the ruling Congress was planning a series of meetings to counter the TRS, he told reporters here it was Congress MLAs who had raised the demand for statehood and submitted a memorandum to Ms Gandhi when the previous TDP Government 'neglected the region'.
After the Congress assumed office, the region was witnessing allround development whether in the irrigation or power sectors, he said. What was wrong if the Congress highlighted the progress in the last two-and-a-half years,'' he asked.
Admitting that the 'Telangana sentiment' still existed, he said two years was too short for a complete reversal.
