Nehru Yuva Kendra observes 'Vande Mataram' centennary

Vijayawada, Sep 7 (UNI) The Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), the single largest youth organization in the country with 20 lakh students celebrated the centennary of the patriotic song Vande Mataram here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Vijayawada city Mayor Tadi Sakuntala said the song inspired the nation to intensify the freedom struggle against British rule.

She said the song was relevant even today and called upon the people, especially the youth to draw inspiration from the song and involve themselves in the nation building activities.

Playing down the recent controversy over the recitation of the song, she clarified that the national song and the national anthem uphold the secular values.

Emphasizing the need to maintain communal harmony in the country, she exhorted the youth clubs and other youth organizations to work in this direction.
