Goa Cabinet approves SREG

Panaji, Sep 7 (UNI) The Goa Cabinet today gave its nod to the State Cultural policy, state Rural Employment Guarantee (SREG) scheme, and the reservation policy.

Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane told reporters after the Cabinet meeting that under the SREG scheme, skilled and unskilled labourers will be assured employment for 100 days in a year and the state government has made initial provisions for Rs one crore for the purpose.

Under the reservation policy, 49 per cent reservations have been provided for under various categories in government jobs, education and promotions, which includes 26 per cent reservation for OBCs, 14 per cent for STs, 2 per cent each for for SCs, freedom fighters and ex-servicemen, and 3 per cent reservation for the physically-challenged.

The Chief Minister said that a draft cultural policy for the state has been formulated by experts and is the first of its kind in the country. The policy will be implemented shortly, he said.

Mr Rane informed that his government has created a Pension Liability Management Fund and propose to build up a corpus of Rs 45,198 crore within ten years.

Regarding the grant of licences to ten offshore casinos, Mr Rane said no final decision has been taken in this regard.
