Four drown in ''collected water'' in Barmer

Barmer, Sep 7 (UNI) Four people died in different incidents in flood-hit Barmer district due to excess water collected in the areas.

Two-and-half-year-old Revti and one-year old Baburam were killed in Nand grampanchayat yesterday as they drowned in the stagnant water. The panchayat has written to the district administration about the death.

Khamisha, 20, was swept away in Luni river near Dimdi in Gudamalani area, informed Guda tehsildar Ugam Singh.

While 13-year-old Hemraj Silori died after he accidentally slipped near Gol station in Balotra. He died on the way to the Balotra hospital. The police has sent the body for post mortem.

Meanwhile, angry residents of worst hit Kawas village staged a sit-in at the district headquarters yesterday protesting against official inaction over drainage of water.

The drainage work in Malwa village has also been stopped after protests from other surrounding villages.

Kawas is submerged under water over the past 20 days and all district administration projects to drain out water have failed to take off.

An all-party meeting under the leadership of Health Minister Digambar Singh was held over the methods being employed in the Collectorate yesterday. But no consensus was reached.

The villagers of Kawas then shouted slogans against the district administration and the state government and staged a sit-in.
