Fog and cool night disrupt normal life in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 7 (UNI) Early morning fog and cold night disrupted normal life though there was no rains for the past four days in the Kashmir valley.

People in the Kashmir valley, particuarly in the summer capital, Srinagar, were today surprised to see poor visibility due to mist.

The fog during period of the season was nothing abnormal, a weather office spokesman told UNI.

He said the mist was caused due to cold and wet conditions in the morning. As the day progess, it will automatically vanish, he said.

The spokesman said the night was cold as the maximum temperature was recorded 14.2 degree, one degree below normal.

He said there were no reports of any rain or snowfall in the Kashmir valley, for the past four days, indicates the withdrawal of monsoon. There will be no rains for the next 48 hours, he said.

Official sources said that only light vehicles would be allowed from Jammu today. However, from Srinagar all vehicles, including truck loaded with fruits and other commodities left for winter capital.

They said all the vehicles, including more than one thousand trucks loaded with essential commodities, stranded due to closure of the 300-km- long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, because of land slides for about a week.

Meanwhile, the water level in the river Jehlum and its tributaries was receeding in south Kashmir while in Srinagar and north Kashmir it was flowing still above danger mark.

Officials of flood control said that water level in Jehlum at Sangam was 16.70 feet, about five feet below danger mark. However, it was still one feet above danger mark at Ram Munshibagh, he said.
