Debt ridden farmers commit suicide

Palakkad, Sep 7 (UNI) Unable to repay agricultural loans taken from banks, a man and a woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents at Nemmara and Nalleppally in the district today.

Paulose (69), a farmer, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at Nemmara as he could not repay the loan taken from a bank for purchasing a tractor, police said.

In the other incident, Rahima Beevi (60) ended her life by consuming poison at Nalleppally after a cooperative bank initiated reveneu recovery measures following her failure to repay a farm loan taken five years ago, police added.
