One die in flood relief camp

Hoshangabad, MP, Sep 6 (UNI) A man, who was suffering from jaundice and lodged in a relief camp at Raghuvanshipura school at Sohagpur due to flood in Palakmati river in this district, has allegedly died due to lack of medical treatment, police said today.

After Dhanraj's death on September 4, residents, led by former legislator Savita Divan, staged a 'chakkajam' before police station for about half-an-hour yesterday.

Additional District Magistrate N P Deharia told the agitators that the matter was being investigated and assured that strict action will be taken against the guilty.

After assurances from the ADM and the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) A K Pandey to provide help to the bereaved, the deceased was cremated.

Mr Deharia said Dhanraj's family members were provided Rs 1,000 as immediate relief, while Rs 20,000 will be given for house. His wife, Anita, will be given a job as an aganbadi worker.

Meanwhile, Anita alleged that her husband and four children were in the relief camp for the past 20 days. However, they were not provided with food, medicines or any relief.

She said they were living on the mid-day meal provided by the school teacher. The Revenue Inspector gave her Rs 2,000 after her husband's death on September 4.

''My husband would have been saved if the amount was given earlier,'' she lamented.
