New body for Intellectual Property

Chennai, Sep 6 (UNI) The newly formed Indian Intellectual Property Alumni Association (INIPAA) will organise workshops and seminars on intellectual property information and maintenance with emphasis on the Japanese Patent system, according to A A Mohan, senior partner of the city-based IP law firm, Mohan Associates.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday on the sidelines of a seminar, Mr Mohan, who is in charge of INIPAA, said if such seminars and workshops proved successful, they would offer a three week long course once or twice a year.

INIPAA was begun with guidelines from the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) and Japan Institute of Invention (JII). Similar associations were functioning at Thailand, Malaysia, Philipines and Indonesia.

Mr Mohan claimed that for the first time in India, JPO and JII, in conjunction with the office of the Controller General of Patents, India, and Mohan Associates, had organised a seminar in which 120 people participated. It dealt with intellectual property, trademarks, patents, design, copyright, filing procedures, drafting patent specifications, maintenance and management of IP rights.

Mr Yugi Okuda, acting Consul General of Japan, presided over the inaugural ceremony of the seminar.

Among others, Chandrasekharan, Controller General of Patents Design, Trademarks and Geographical Indications, Hirokazu Nakano, Deputy Director of International affairs, JPO, Shin-Ichiro Suzuki, Executive Counselor of JII and others spoke at the seminar.
