MAHE ; first university to deploy e-learning

Manipal, Karnataka, Sep 6 (UNI) The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a deemed university here, today launched its digital campus to enhance student services and academic excellence.

The varsity distributed 2,000 laptops to students and 1,500 to faculty members and had Wi-Fi enabled multiple locations in the campus, including MAHE building, food court and hostels.

Speaking at the launch ceremony here, MAHE President Ramdas Pai said MAHE was the first varsity in the country to deploy e-learning methods for medical students as per the Medical Council of India (MCI) curriculum. Over ten km optic fibre cable had been laid for inter connecting the buildings.

He said that in the first phase, Wi-Fi had been enabled at selected locations and soon wireless connectivity would be provided at 35 hostels and 24 academic buildings, ensuring high speed internet access to students.

MAHE had also set up a world class data centre to provide a reliable 24X7 IT application service and digitised the admission process by implementing online admission tests and online application system with integrated payment gateway. It had also implemented latest 'MPLS Backbone' to connect examination centres across the country, besides installation of world class video conferencing system through which live lectures could be delivered from Beaumont Hospital in the US.
