I remain steadfast in opposing LTTE: Jaya
Andipatti (Tamil Nadu), Sep 6: Reacting sharply to an allegation that she had struck a secret understanding with the LTTE, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa has said that she remained steadfast in opposing the outfit ever since the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The AIADMK would never support the LTTE or any other extremist organisation posing a threat to the country's sovereignty and security, she said while addressing a thanksgiving function at her constituency here last night.
She lambasted Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President (TNCC) President M Krishnasamy for having made an ''irresponsible and baseless'' allegation that she was hatching a conspiracy along with the LTTE.
Ms Jayalalithaa said the Congress leader had accused her of surreptitiously backing the LTTE just because her party was in alliance with the Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK). ''If so, why did the Congress support the LTTE when it contested the 2004 Lok Sabha election in alliance with the MDMK?'' she asked.
She also recalled that the PMK, a constituent of the UPA Government, organised a rally in 1993 in which the party cadres carried pictures of LTTE leader V Prabhakaran and Rajiv assassins and raised slogans in support of them.
