Haj subsidy case hearing tomorrow

Lucknow, Sep 6 (UNI) The Central and Uttar Pradesh governments' applications for vacating the stay order granted by Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court banning subsidy for Haj and other pilgrimages will be taken up for hearing tomorrow.

Last month, the Lucknow Bench had barred the Central and UP governments from providing financial subsidy for Haj pilgrimage.

A Bench comprising Justices A K Yog and O N Khandelwal ruled such subsidy should not be granted with regard to any pilgrimage to any community.

On behalf of the Centre, Additional Solicitor General Deepak Seth moved the application, while Chief Standing Counsel S H A Rizvi filed the affidavit on state's behalf.
