'Good Haryana' Editor caught taking bribe
New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) A Government-accredited Animal Welfare Officer and Editor of a daily newspaper from Jind called ''Good Haryana'' is under arrest for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man transporting cattle, the CBI said today.
The accused Madan Verma, who had demanded the bribe to allow ''safe passage'' to the vehicle, was caught red handed at Narwana following a complaint, a CBI spokesman said.
Verma claimed to be a working journalist and Editor of the local daily ''Good Haryana''. He also was district President of the NGO forum 'People for Animals'.
As Animal Welfare Officer, he moved around in a vehicle declaring him as an official of the Animal Welfare Board of India, of the Environment and Forests Ministry.
The CBI said it had seized the vehicle and was producing the accused before a magistrate in Ambala.
