CRPF to open disaster management training inst

Latur (Maharashtra), Sep 6: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will lay the foundation stone of the Disaster Management Training Institute, a national level institute, here on September 9.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will be the chief guest of the foundation laying ceremony of the institute, according to an official release issued yesterday by the Press Information Bureau.

The Institute will cater to the need of training Police manpower, which are the first responders during all natural and manmade disasters in the country.

The institute will have three-core facilities. among them, Medical 1st responder (MFR) and Collapsed structure search and rescue (CSSR) are the two core modules, which will deal with disaster situations in calamities.

The second facility will focus specifically on flood rescue and relief operations. This facility will also train for fire accidents and other manmade accidents like that of train and plane. The 3rd facility will be for training in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical disasters (NBC).

This Institute will train all personnel of the 200 Battalions of CRPF in Disaster Management. The training facility of the Institute will also be available to other State Police&other civil search and rescue teams.

The Institute will initially have a Training Capacity of 700 personnel at a time. The training is Skill intensive course and therefore it will require one instructor per three trainees.

The world class institute will come up on the 200 acre area and will cost approximately Rs 100 Crore and is expected to be functional in two years time, an official release said.

Other National level institutes facilitating the setting up of this institute are - BARC Mumbai for radiological emergencies; DRDE Gwalior for Chemical&Biological and National Civil Defence college, Nagpur. Equipments of all types including mannequins, cutting instruments, first aid kits, Radioactive source for training in nuclear disasters, flood water rescue training on a pool with fast flow for practice will be available at the institute.
