Constable with Jaish connections arrested
Jammu, Sep 6 (UNI) A head constable having alleged links with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad was arrested, police said.
Mohammad Sharief, posted at the District Police Lines here, was absconding for last one week after a satellite telephone was seized from his house. He was arrested last evening.
Though Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) Rajouri Farook Khan denied having any information regarding the arrest, other officials have confirmed it saying Sharief's interrogation was on.
Sources said Sharief's wife Ruksana Begum was earlier detained for questioning after a satellite phone was recovered from his house at Kotli Kalaban.
Sharief had deserted his post and went underground soon after the arrest of a militant Amjad and his associates. A satellite telephone was also recovered from the militants.
The alleged network, police said, was also engaged in hawala transactions and affiliated with Saifullah Qari group of Jaish-e-Mohammad. Qari masterminded the fidayeen attack at Ayodhya last year.
