Bhaskaran says India deserved a draw
Monchengladbach, Sep 6 (UNI) Despite the 2-3 defeat against Germany in the World Cup opener, hockey coach Vasudevan Bhaskran said he was not unhappy with the show and felt a draw would have been a fair result.
''I would have liked the match to end in a draw. We should have got at least a point,'' he told mediapersons after the game.
Analysing the performance, the coach said, ''The boys played really well in the second half. We had our chances but I can not always blame my players.'' ''In the first half, both the teams played safely but my boys came back in the game in the second session,'' he pointed out.
On conceding a last minute goal, he said, ''Well, the last minute goal is also part of the game. The Germans got the chance and they scored. But we overall played good hockey.'' He said he was disappointed for not having gained a point but still it is not over.
''The way boys came back in the game in the second half shows that they have the fighting capabilities. We have this crucial match against England tomorrow and by hook or crook, we have to gain full three points. We should forget today's result and start it afresh,'' he added.
