At least one killed in Gaza car blast: Medics
Gaza, Sept 6: At least one Palestinian militant was killed and another critically wounded in an Israeli airstrike in the town of Rafah in the Gaza Strip today, medics and the Israeli military said.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said the air strike targeted a car carrying the militants.
''Two members of Hamas were in the vehicle at the time and were on their way to carry out an attack on Israel,'' she said. ''There was a secondary explosion which indicates there were explosives in the car.'' Palestinian medics and residents said the two militants were members of Hamas's armed wing and were inside the car when it exploded. They added that nine other people were wounded.
Medics and residents had earlier said that two militants were killed, but later said the second man had been rushed to hospital still alive.
Israel has pressed an offensive in the Gaza Strip for more than two months to try to recover a soldier who was abducted in a cross-border raid and to try to put a stop to rocket attacks on the Jewish state.
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed, about half of them civilians.
