Kolkata, Sept 5: The West Bengal government is planning to set up a hosiery park in and around Kolkata.

The government has asked the West Bengal Hosiery Association (WBHA) for preparing a report on the proposed project, state small scale and cottage industries minister Manabendra Mukherjee said.

"The government will act on the basis of that report which is expected shortly," Mr Mukherjee said.

According to an official of the WBHA, they have identified a land at Cossipore for the park.

"The land at Cossipore is now under possession of the FCI.This will be an ideal location for the hosiery park as most of the hosiery knitting units are located at Sovabazar, Cossipore areas," he said. However, Mr Mukherjee has made it clear that the park will not to be set up on the FCI land at Cossipore for some reasons.

"We will set up the park elsewhere in and around the city. The government will provide all the infrastructure in the park," he assured.

According to initial plan of the WBHA, the park, spreading over 10 acres of land will house 100 hosiery units in the first phase.
