Vande Mataram: No action against defaulting schools

Chandigarh, Sep 5 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to celebrate the centenary of national song 'Vande Mataram' in all schools of the state on September 7.

The national song would be sung by the students during the morning prayer meetings on that day, Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana said.

However, no action would be taken against any school if it chose not to go in for the recitation of the song written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.

Mr Mullana said there would be ''prabhat pheris'' with students reciting the Vande Mataram throughout the state on this occasion besides its recitation during the morning prayer meetings.

The heads of the institutions and the teachers would deliver lectures to the students in their respective schools regarding the history of the song. He said quiz contests on the song would also be held in the schools and the winners would be awarded suitably.
