Tripura condemns air fare hike
Agartala, Sep 5 (UNI) The Tripura government has condemned the proposed hike in air fares by the aviation ministry from today.
In a letter to the ministry, state Transport Minister Manik Dey criticised the hike on the Agartala-Kolkata and Agartala-Guwahati routes.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said the hike in air fares for both routes in the last eight months was Rs 960 and Rs 950 respectively.
''Now another hike of Rs 100 is proposed by the aviation ministry from today. This takes the total hike in air fares in the current year is Rs 1060,'' Mr Dey said.
There was no fresh increase in price of fuel and it was unecessary to raise the air fare now and the union aviation ministry should reconsider the decision, he added.
As the state is deprived of rail link air connectivity is the only means of travel apart from road link, the minister said.
