Three fans injured as wall collapses during cricket camp
Bangalore, Sep 5 (UNI) Unsatiable hunger to watch their favourites -- Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Indian team skipper Rahul Dravid -- in action resulted in three cricket fans sustaining injuries when a wall on which they were sitting at the NCA grounds adjoining the M A Chinnaswamy stadium in the city collapsed today.
With a blanket of tight security thrown around the stadium, the die hard fans, numbering about 40, could find only one way to watch their icons practice. They climbed over a tree and sat on the ten-ft-high compound wall.
When Sachin and Harbhajan waved at them, they were thrilled, oblivious of the danger of so many of them sitting on an aged wall.
The wall gave way, injuring three people. While one of them was admitted to a hospital with head injuries, the other two were treated as out-patients.
Following the incident, training was stopped and the players moved to the Chinnaswamy stadium. Besides Sachin, Dravid and Harbhajan, VRV Singh and Dinesh Mongia were attending the camp for players bound for Kuala Lumpur to play a tri-series against Australia and West Indies.
The 'rolling camp' was being held in batches, with five players taking part in each of them and this was the final batch.
