Sonia greets Keralites on 'beautiful' Onam

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi today greeted the people of Kerala on the occasion of Onam saying the ''beautiful festival'' unites everyone regardless of religion.

''May Onam usher in progress, prosperity, peace and happiness, with King Mahabali's blessings, for all of you,'' Ms Gandhi said in a message.

''It is heartening to see traditions are so faithfully upheld and continue to thrive,'' she said.

''This beautiful festival, which unites everyone regardless of their religion, symbolises the remarkable cultural, spiritual and artistic traditions of Kerala,'' Ms Gandhi said.

She said whether it is the personal celebration of Onam at home, with prayers, rangoli, pookalam and payasam, or through great public events like the Thrissur procession and boat races, the genius and spirit of Kerala and its people shines through, bringing joy and pride to King Mahabali's heart.
