SEZ helps to develop relationships: Sharma

Mumbai, Sept 5: Stressing the importance of Special Economic Zone (SEZ), SEZ Developers' Association of India (SEZDAI) Chairman and Managing Director Sharma Nand Sharma today said SEZ plays important role in developing relations with countries to which we export our goods.

''The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) plays vital role in developing close co-operation with those countries where we export our goods.

Even though Indian goods are costlier than Chinese goods, they have a recognition in the world market for the quality maintained by our manufacturers,'' said Mr Sharma while talking to mediapersons here .

''The export of quality goods has also helped in developing close co-operation for technology transfer and getting help to develop Indian market in those countries,'' Mr Sharma added.

About the criticism by a section of society for approval to more than 150 SEZs to the private sector by the Government, Mr Sharma said though SEZs are not paying any taxes to the government for economy development of the country, they contribute in economy development by bringing foreign exchange.

Started two-three months ago with the aim to improve exports and help the development of SEZ in the country, SEZDAI now has more than 50 members including those who want to set up SEZ.
