Rajasthan panel on Gurjar quota issue

Jaipur, Sep 5 (UNI) The Rajasthan government has set up a panel to examine Gurjar quota issue.

A cabinet sub-committee has been formed, which would look into the demand of Gurjars for shifting their reservation category from other backward classes (OBC) to Scheduled Tribe (ST), an official told UNI here yesterday.

The Gurjars in the state have been protesting and demanding a change in their status from the existing OBC category to ST.

"The cabinet sub-panel would hold a meeting with the Rajasthan Gurjar Mahasabha on September 8 and then with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on September 15", the official said.

The activists from the community protested on Sunday near the Hindon railway station and damaged railway tracks and property, thereby hitting railway services on the Mumbai-Delhi section.

Later, after successful talks between the Gurjar leaders and senior government officials, the protestors called off their agitation.
