Naxal sympathisers in custody
Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 5 (UNI) Two naxal sympathisers- a father and daughter- were produced before a local court today on charges of carrying explosives.
V R Laxmana Rao alias Suryam (50), father of Maoist courier Gopala Rao Alias Gopi Azad (20), who surrendered yesterday, and his daughter Jhansi alias Nirmala Manasa (22) were arrested at Makkuva police station limits last night.
District Police Superintendent Vikram Singh Mann today said the whole family worked for top CPI Maoists leaders in Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. Residents of Pendurthi mandal in Vishakapatnam district, gelatin sticks, detonators, wireless sets, wire bundle, battery and CPI Maoist party literature, were recovered from them, he added.
Mr Mann added that Laxmana Rao had been working for the CPI Maoist party for the last 12 years. He was basically a courier and 'den keeper' and he had given shelter to top cadres like Ganapathi, Chandramouli, Sudhakar, Bhaskar, Andhra-Orissa border Special Zonal Committee Secretary Ramakrisha.
He was previously Vizag City Committee member from 1996 to 1999 and groomed all his children in CPI Maoist ideology.
His elder daughter, Aruna, action team commander in Galikonda Dalam supplied electronic items like wireless sets and cell phones.
The younger daughter Jhansi was secretary of Stree Sakthi, a frontal organisation of CPI Maoists in Visakhapatnam. She also worked underground and was arrested during the Gangavaram port agitation.
In addition, she along with Gopiazad, Laxman Rao and others were spreading CPI Maoist ideology among the masses in Visakhapatnam city and surrounding agency and border areas, the police added.
