Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Johny Joseph transferred

Mumbai, Sep 5 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Johny Joseph has been transferred as Chairman of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).

Mr Joseph was transferred about two to three months ago. The state government had requested the Centre to allow the bureaucrat to stay back for the monsoon period.

Sources said with monsoon at the fag end, Mr Joseph has been given the relieving order.

''If Mr Joseph's transfer had been delayed, the Centre would have made a fresh appointment in his place,'' sources added.

BMC Additional Commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastav has been given the additional charge till Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Chief Secretary D K Sankaran return from New Delhi.

Urban Development Principal Secretary Ramanand Tiwari is tipped to be the next BMC Commissioner.

Meanwhile, State government spokesperson Manisha Patankar-Mhaiskar has denied reports in the section of media that Mr Joseph had been removed from the post.
