Moderate rainfall to occur in next 24 hrs

Kolkata, Sep 5 (UNI) The city experienced a few spells of rain this morning with the sun peeping through the dark clouds at intervals.

The Met department said rains were a regular monsoon feature and not influenced by the depression in the coastal parts of Orissa.

''The well marked low pressure has weakened and the system moving in the west-north westerly direction has reached Chhattisgarh,'' the Met officials said.

They have forecast heavy to very heavy rains in most parts of Andaman and Nicobar islands under its influence and further said heavy rainfall would occur at sub himalayan Bengal along with Sikkim.

The city experienced a moderate rainfall of 10.6 mm in the last 24 hours, they said.

The damp and swampy weather had caused the mercury level to take a dip at maximum of 30 degree Celsius and minimum of 26 degree Celsius. However, it did not bring much respite to the citizens as the relative humidity remained at 92 per cent.

Met officials said there might be a few spells of downpour in the next 24 hours.
